Monitors for dentistry

The requirements for monitors for pantomography and tomography are identical to those for tomography and angiography , as you will read in the Regulation of the Ministry of Health dated January 11, 2023. dental offices must meet sanitary and technical standards to ensure patient safety. Here are the requirements* that currently must be met:
- For descriptive posts:
- Having at least one descriptive monitor, whereby if images are recorded in color - the monitor should also display images in color;
- Minimum resolution of the display area of the dental monitor: 1024×1024 pixels;
- Adjust the monitor to the DICOM GSDF gray curve function.
- For review posts:
- At least one review monitor in the dental office;
- Matching the DICOM GSDF gray curve function.
*These requirementsdo not apply to dental intraoral radiographs.
Comparison of requirements for dental monitors from the 2017 regulation.
NOTE: The previous Ministry of Health Regulation of May 2017 described in more detail the requirements for the monitors used in terms of image parameters. Accordingly, we refer to it as a kind of reference:
- For descriptive posts:
- The minimum working diagonal of the screen in a dental monitor is 45 cm;
- Minimum screen luminance: 200 cd/m2;
- Contrast: 250/1.
- For review posts:
- The minimum working diagonal of the screen is 45 cm;
- Minimum luminance: 100 cd/m2;
- Contrast at 100/1.
Moreover, the requirements of the 2017 Ordinance also applied to monitors for intraoral imaging, and they had to have:
- For descriptive posts in dental offices:
- Minimum working diagonal of the screen: 37.5 cm.
- The minimum luminance is 200 cd/m2.
- Contrast 250/1.
- For dental review stations:
- The minimum working diagonal of the screen is 37.5 cm;
- Minimum luminance: 100 cd/m2;
- Contrast at 100/1.
The minimum luminance in the above quoted parameters refers to the minimum brightness of a monitor calibrated according to DICOM Part 14 (and not to the theoretical minimum brightness of the monitor).
Requirements for the Ministry of Health Regulation January 11, 2023.
The rules for owning applicable medical equipment - including dental monitors - as described in the Health Minister's Decree of January 11, 2023, are "minimalist." Practically speaking , when searching for dental monitors on the market , you may quickly realize that manufacturers mostly do not offer monitors with such low parameters.
Most of the monitor matrices manufactured today, have a minimum resolution of FullHD (2 MP) and definitely higher brightness and contrast parameters. Therefore, in our offer you will find monitors dedicated to work in dental offices for both descriptive and review stations: 2 MP, 3 MP and 8 MP. They give much more comfort to the doctor both in the sphere of diagnostics itself and ergonomics.
A basic requirement for a monitor to be approved for both descriptive and review workstations is that it be "matched to the DICOM GSDF gray curve function," a calibration function that complies with DICOM Part 14 guidelines.
Dental monitor tests
Monitors in dental offices must pass specialized and acceptance tests when installed at the workstation (after purchase). They must also successfully pass annual tests to check compliance with the DICOM curve, as well as tests for matrix backlight uniformity. Testing of dental monitors must be performed by accredited companies.
