A few days ago, our vendor Arcserve announced the release of the ninth version of its flagship product Unified Data Protection (UDP). It is backup software and a component of the Unified Data Resilience platform, which offers many innovative functionalities.
Arcserve UDP 9.0 provides fully accessible ransomware protection and security for data backups and a large reduction in archived data using global source-side deduplication, i2 technology and our compression. The new version also has a "sewn-in" functionality, similar to a cluster for all applications and data, and provides effective data recovery (with fully automated, non-disruptive DR testers). The Granular Recovery feature has been added with Database applications in mind (e.g. Oracle DB).
The new version, Arcserve UDP 9.0 itself includes new features, enhancements and module updates, including:
- Cloud-based management (Cloud Console) - The management console can be cloud-based or private. Arcserve Cloud Console is designed for multiple users with enhanced security features offered by Arcserve Identity Services.
- The ability to store backups in external storage - this allows for increased availability and scalability, data by storing backups directly in the cloud: Amazon or Google Cloud. This lowers total cost of ownership (TCO) and improves disaster recovery support from the cloud.
- Improved Oracle Database Protection - Added protection features such as agentless backup in Solaris for Oracle DB via RMAN and Assured Recovery functions. It is now possible to restore the entire Oracle Pluggable Database, as well as some areas of Oracle PDB tables.
- Advanced recovery options for Microsoft programs - new features include a function for recovering data to a fixed point on the timeline (for SQL-Server), which allows you to recover a database to any point between two recovery points. This ensures that full data integrity is restored.
- Technical documentation and a quick introduction module to the Arcserve UDP architecture.
By working with Sophos Intercept X Advanced and implementing their engines in Arcserve Backup software, ML server protection can be combined with storage to support a data resiliency strategy.
