Reduce network monitoring costs with 100 Gb Line Rate Packet Slicing technology

Challenge

Increasing network speeds require new diagnostic and monitoring devices that can meet the demands of precise network analysis done in real time.

The solution requires facing the following problems:

- High throughput traffic aggregation

- ability to perform the following operations on packets: packet slicing, tagging, VXLAN filtering at full line rate of 100G

The solution offered by CUBRO:

Packet slicing: packet slicing technology is the only way to reduce the cost of monitoring devices

VXLAN filtering: VXLAN filtering further reduces the output traffic to the monitoring device. In addition, most network traffic monitoring devices do not support VXLAN encapsulation

VLAN tag ging (tagging): Performing VLAN tagging allows you to create accurate reports on individual connections

The primary advantage of packet slicing is a very significant reduction in link traffic. Take a typical 100Gbit connection with 80% utilization and an average packet size of 1,000 bytes, which transmits 12 million packets per second. If we truncate the packet to 100 bytes, which gives enough information for typical network monitoring, then 111 million packets can be sent over a 100Gb port or 44 million packets over a 40Gb port.

The figure above shows an example configuration for monitoring 14 100G links using Cubro 's EXA 32100A Network Packet Broker and Cubro's OptoSlim TAP and MTP TAP series TAPs.
