Open Networking with QuantaMesh BMS series and QNOS software

QCT is one of the most popular manufacturers of so-called Bare Metal Sw itches for Open Networking. We have the full portfolio of the supplier, but in this solution we would like to describe one of the manufacturer's most popular models, the T3048 from the 3000 series QuantaMesh BMS.

The series includes the highest-end, highest-performance switches, with mainstream 10G bandwidth for cloud data centers. The 3000 Series offers solutions with SFP ports (in the T3048LY7, T3048LY8) or Base-T ports (in the T3048LY9). QuantaMesh products offer higher performance than the competition, higher availability and better service support to meet all the requirements of a data center installation environment.

QuantaMesh's flagship switch with SFP+ ports is the T3048-LY8. This Ethernet switch features high performance and low latency. It is equipped with 48 1 / 10Gbe SFP+ ports and 4 40SFbE QSFP+ ports, all housed in a compact 1U RACK chassis. The four 40GbE ports provide up to 160Gbps bandwidth. Each 40 Gigabit Ethernet port can be independently configured as 40GbE or 4 x 10GbE for a total of 64 10GbE ports. Base-T port version of the switch model: the T3048LY9 supports 48 100/1000/10GBase-T ports and 6 40G QSFP+ ports. Using next-generation chipsets, the T3048-LY9 is a high-performance, high-density, affordable Ethernet switch. In addition, the processor design provides a choice of third-party software.

QuantaMesh BMS series switches are fully compatible with TAP and NPB (Network Packet Broker) solutions from companies such as Cubro, Garland Technology, Apcon and ProfiTAP. Based on the aforementioned solutions, you can build a professional, manageable network infrastructure for a Data Center. One of the main advantages of Bare Metal Switches is their independence from the network operating system. Thanks to the pre-loaded ONIE ( Open Network Installation Environment), the switch provides flexibility and allows you to install a network operating system such as Open Network Linux (ONL), Quanta QNOS, Cumulus Linux. This solution provides faster response to changing business requirements.

Quanta offers the QNOS network operating system for its switches. It is a very modern platform for data centers and cloud systems. The software is based on Broadcom's ICOS, a platform for traditional L2 / L3 functions and software-defined networking (SDN) applications. Ported from ICOS, the code is a proven protocol system that can operate on several levels of process control. The software supports operational performance and flexible capacity deployment.

The system gives us the core functionalities of today's central networks, such as network automation, virtualization, high availability and SDN. QNOS provides a comprehensive set of functions for all types of applications. The automation of operations allows for high-speed cloud computing and parallel computing, large data sets. The demand for professional network equipment in the data center is growing exponentially, making network automation crucial. The system developed by QTC supports automated installation, RESFful, Ansible and PSME (Pooled System Management Engine). It also facilitates easy deployment to build a data center with infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Network virtualization in QNOS offers VxLAN functions for the hardware platform. The system is not limited to 4K VLANs. VxLAN enables network scaling, beyond L3 subnetting, and can support up to 16.7 million virtual networks.
