ePDU G3 smart power strip - Eaton

Efficient power supply is the foundation of any Data Center
There is no Data Center without adequate power distribution systems. An important feature of them is security and the ability to monitor conditions, whether environmental or directly related to power supply. Efficient power supply, at the same time, means continuous operation of active devices, which are responsible for the operation of the entire IT architecture.
ePDU G3+ smart power strip
A smart power strip is a device designed to enable switching on and off the IT equipment to which it is connected. Thanks to it, it is possible to protect power lines, measure and control power consumption, as well as monitor current environmental conditions in RACK cabinets.

Eaton ePDU G3+
Eaton ePDU G3+ is the latest generation of intelligent power strip, or power distribution unit, whose main features are optimizing energy consumption and controlling operating costs. This happens thanks to the high accuracy of measurements, which can be compared to meter parameters. The feature can be used when settling energy operating costs with customers using colocation services in data centers.
Smart power strip - possibilities
In addition to the main role of taking measurements, with the smart power strip it is also possible to switch and group individual outlets, scheduled, remote start-up and shutdown of systems. As a result, it is an easier task to turn off IT devices such as servers that are currently unnecessary. Such functionality provides the opportunity for greater efficiency of critical devices.
The ePDU G3+ strips from Eaton offer a 0U design to save rack space. Several key elements can be distinguished in their design. These include a management panel, sixteen IEC-320-C13 type power outlets and a grounding screw.
Selected features of ePDU G3+
Management panel
The management panel (ePDU Network Management and Control) has a complex structure that includes̨ not only an LCD display and navigation buttons, but also a serial port, a 10/100 LAN, a USB port for firmare updates, a button for resetting, and a Diasy Chain port to connect several strips to each other.
Environmental sensor
The serial port allows regular analysis of parameters such as temperature and humidity. The function is achievable when the Eaton EMP001 environmental sensor is connected to the smart power strip, and the information reading can be seen on the LCD display.
Display
The display itself shows a number of important parameters, which make it possible to diagnose voltage, input power, analyze alarm history. Whether our smart power strip is mounted vertically or horizontally, there will be no difficulty to read the information. This is possible thanks to the 90° rotatable screen.
GRIP locks
It is also worth paying attention to the safety devices near the outlets. Small, gray egrip locks (commonly called wads) prevent̨ plugs from falling out of the socket.
Eaton Intelligent Power Manager
All ePDU G3+ strips from Eaton can be managed and monitored using Eaton's Intelligent Power Manager virtual software, which easily integrates with leading virtualization consoles. This makes it seamless to automatically monitor, update and configure multiple ePDU strips at once.
It is worth noting the key capabilities provided by the smart power strip ePDU G3+:
- Accurate measurement of energy consumption - The ePDU G3+ effectively measures the energy consumption of all or individual outlets with +/-1% accuracy, allowing PDUs to be used in billing or colocation data centers.
- P-Lock and eGrip systems- New socket design with dual safety mechanism.
- In-house software is regularly updated to maintain the highest level of cyber security.
- Greater range of measurements of environmental conditions in the room with the ability to connect up to 3 temperature and humidity sensors Environmental Monitoring Probe gen2 (EMPDT1H1C2) under a single PDU.
