Home office? Take care of a strong and efficient connection together with Silex

Opengear ADV 06.2021-2

High performance and bandwidth are an essential requirement in the home office era. When adapting home Wi-Fi for remote work, we need to keep in mind all the tools that require a constant connection to the Internet - especially video conferencing applications, as they are the most sensitive to fluctuations in connection quality. With this in mind, the first conclusion comes to mind - the requirement for an efficient network at home is to cover the entire area of the house with coverage from routers. The latest wireless devices of this type, at first glance, can provide a strong signal in all rooms. Problems begin when rooms are, for example, separated from each other by thick concrete walls that block the radio signal, or when the house is divided into floors. In such a case, we would intuitively reach for a repeater or Access Point.

Would these be optimal solutions in this case?

Range boosters are good at filling in dead zones, but can significantly reduce network performance, providing only half the bandwidth of the main router, for example. Access points can provide more bandwidth, however, this solution too has its downsides. One of them is the requirement for a wired connection to the main router. What to use in this case? To the rescue comes MESH technology.

Silex 's connectivity solutions are a response to the changing world of wireless technology. We can find an increasing number of solutions on the market that combat poor quality Wi-Fi connections, and one of them is the new MESH technologies that are becoming more common and available to everyone.

What is it, however?

Mesh is a solution that connects several routers that work together to cover a wider range of Wi-Fi networks. As you move around your apartment or office, you switch between devices while being on the same Wi-Fi network - depending on which device is in range.

BR-400AN is a system with which any user can build WLAN networks in their home or office, without much effort. The controllers easily create a reliable WLAN infrastructure compliant with IEEE802.11s and the 802.11 a/b/g/n standard. The device is designed to operate in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and supports two modes of operation - as a mesh point in the network and as an access point. Data rates are as high as 130 Mbps, and the authentication and encryption standards used are WPA, WPA2 and the most commonly used EAP types.
