Scale Computing and Leostream solutions to facilitate remote working

Scale Computing has announced the availability of a solution that allows users to work remotely from home using the company's remote IT infrastructure. It provides a remote desktop portal where users can log in from any browser on any device and connect to their computers in the company, without the need to set up a VPN.

This solution allows people to start working from home quickly, without the need to purchase a dedicated computer for each employee. They can simply use their personal devices (BYOD) such as a home computer, laptop, tablet or even smart TV.

A home user using a browser only has access to the remote computer's desktop and can only enter data using the keyboard. It is impossible to transmit data differently both from home to the company and in the opposite direction. As a result, the company's sensitive data never leaves the main location. On the other hand, a home device, even if it has become infected with a virus or ransomware, is unable to transfer that threat to the company's network.

However, it is possible to configure, if necessary, special policies that allow authorized users to use USB flash drives and local or network printers.
To further enhance security, it is possible to use special authorization devices, cards or tokens.
In the case of implementing a full VDI solution with an infrastructure of virtual workstations, it is possible to use zero client devices, such as Dell Wyse terminals.

Key features of the solution:

  • Quick, easy implementation of the Work From Home strategy,
  • Log in from any browser on any device,
  • No VPN required,
  • The ability to use your own personal devices (BYOD),
  • Maintaining security and protecting data,
  • RODO (GDPR) compliance.

How to set up a remote working solution:

  1. A 30-day license of the software can be obtained at the Trial version page.
  2. You can then proceed to install the most important components of the solution: Connection broker and Gateway.
    - Connection broker is responsible for user authentication and implementation of remote working policies.
    - Gateway is an access gateway responsible for data transmission between a remote device and a physical or virtual computer at the company's headquarters.
All of the above components can be installed using Leostream resources, as described in the Leostream Install Guide
  3. Instead, you can use ScaleComputing's pre-prepared virtual machines to run on the HC3 cluster:

    Download VM Broker
    Authentication credentials: root/ScaleBroker

    Download Gateway VM
    Authentication credentials: root/ScaleGateway

  1. The entire solution can be implemented in under 1 hour.

How to start using:

The video below shows the installation and configuration process at a glance.

In the future, this solution can be easily scaled up to a full virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution, thus providing greater data security and better support for both local and remote users.
A full virtual desktop solution can be deployed very quickly using ScaleComputing's HC3 series appliance offering. It is a complete solution of a minimum 3-node high availability cluster together with a virtualizer (hypervisor) characterized by ease of use, speed of installation with low total cost of deployment.
