Edge IT - Remote Access by Vertiv

Vertiv's console server is a hardware device that we place in a rack and connect to IT devices - servers, routers, storage, PDU strips, UPS - providing unified remote access to these devices via a web application. The device is connected to a network and/or LTE/4G router, providing remote access. Connecting to the console server, you get an interactive session that allows you to monitor and control all related devices.

We connect the Vertiv solution classically via LAN, as well as we can use a 4G router with a SIM card containing a public or private IP address. This solution provides access even if the edge router fails and there is no network connection.

A small rack cabinet with IT equipment (e.g. for a branch office, small office). The rack contains server equipment, network equipment and Vertiv products - KVM for remote access, ups and PDU power distribution strip (monitored remotely) and optional LTE/4G router

In the case of network devices, for example, we can access the so-called console port, get a command line and execute all the commands that control the operation of such a network device, for example, set the IP address and another network gateway, change routing, update firmware, change rules on the firewall, etc. - all operations that the administrator is able to perform during his work.

Vertiv's solution also allows remote access to devices in the event of a lack of any response (e.g. during a reset after a firmware update on a router). Using the console port and integration with the power strip, we are able to force a reboot and then enter rescue mode and resume the update process or revert to the old firmware.

In the case of servers, we are able to access the PC or server puplit and, for example, run service management tools, reconfigure applications, restart services, change IP addressing, etc.

Find out why you may need Vertiv's remote access solutions:

  • Ensuring business continuity is critical due to SLAs, availability of services provided, or ensuring the continuity of systems,
  • you have a distributed infrastructure, the servicing of which incurs costs due to travel time or the provision of dedicated distributed service resources,
  • you have a large number of servers and network devices from different manufacturers within a single or multiple server rooms and you need a unified tool that provides uniform access to all servers and network devices.

Benefits of using the Vertiv solution:

  • savings associated with optimizing the use of administrative and service resources and the ability to remotely verify the problem and restore functionality. As an example, a company in the telecommunications industry has a distributed "Edge" infrastructure and a need for central maintenance and administrative support,
  • Optimization of potential profit related to the ability to minimize downtime and failures. An example is a bank that has a multi-branch structure, for which the failure time of transaction systems is easily translated into financial losses.
