Silex DS-510 - share your USB device on the LAN

SILEX DS-510

Silex DS-510 server

The Silex DS-510 server allows you to quickly connect to and share USB devices on your network. This provides convenient access to printers, scanners, disk drives, card readers and any other device equipped with a USB port. With the DS-510, the USB device does not need to be connected directly to the computer, allowing it to be placed anywhere on the network. In addition, the Silex DS-510 guarantees multi-user access to the device.

Main advantages of Silex DS-510 :

  • Printer Autoconnect - interoperability with Windows and Macintosh printing systems allows multiple users to easily share a local USB printer through the autoconnect function. When printing is complete, the connection is automatically broken and the printer becomes available to the next user.
  • Isochronous transfer mode - allows the use of webcams and sound cards that require uninterrupted data transfer in real time.
  • High compatibility - The Silex DS-510 is compatible with a variety of USB devices, disk drives, flash drives and other storage media, as well as scanners, printers, digital cameras, sound cards, displays, input devices, mixing consoles, etc.
  • Virtualization - The Silex DS-510 is compatible with virtual programs and environments such as Citrix, VMware, Microsoft Terminal Server and Hyper-V.
  • No additional installations - the same drivers support connection over the interface, as well as over the network. The included Silex SX-Virtual Link software accurately emulates a USB connection on a Windows or Mac computer, then redirects packets over the network to the Silex DS-510 server's USB port.
  • A complete solution - both the hardware and software of the Silex DS-510 were developed and manufactured by Silex. The company provides technical services and personalization, including rebranding, OEM and creation of individual, personalized designs. An SDK (Sooftware Developer Kit) is also available to customers for both client and server versions, allowing integration with any application. For more information, contact the manufacturer.

What is SX-Virtual Link?

SX-Virtual Link is Silex-developed software for Windows and Mac computers. SX-Virtual Link accurately emulates a USB port on any computer that needs to access a USB device over the network. In this way, the computers "see" the USB device as if it were connected directly through the USB port, while in reality they are communicating over the network with the Silex DS-510 server.

What is a USB device server?

This is a network attachment using Silex USB Virtual Link technology, which allows USB-enabled devices to be plugged into a network infrastructure. Almost any device with a USB port can be shared among multiple users, who can use them as if they were connected locally to a computer. The software detects USB device servers and USB devices on the network, and then displays the results on the screen. If a USB device is already in use by another person, a request can be sent to share it, and you can decide whether to automatically break the connection after a certain amount of time if there is no response. This makes sharing any USB device over a network at home or in the office extremely easy.
