Combining Western Digital Ultrastar® Data60 JBOD (equipped with Western Digital Ultrastar® hard drives) with ATTO ExpressSAS GT HBA adapters allows you to build a backup with Open-E JovianDSS On- & Off-Site Data Protection. Such a solution can serve as the 3rd node of an All-Flash Data Storage cluster providing the highest data security based on read-only snapshots (protection against ransomware) and geographically distributed copies (protection against data destruction by, for example, natural disasters or power outages).

Virtualized environments

All-Flash storage systems based on SSDs (or super-fast NVMe SSDs), as well as network solutions with RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) connectivity, are slowly becoming the industry standard. Extremely high IOPs and ultra-low latency are key requirements to create storage for resource-intensive applications such as virtualization, high-performance AI or ML implementations. For business-critical devices, in addition to performance, we must also ensure business continuity and a disaster recovery plan. The wide range of potential threats makes this a major challenge, especially as the amount of data that needs to be archived grows and we look for a budget-efficient solution. Topology and solution description

The Western Digital Ultrastar® Data60 JBOD is connected to the All-Flash NVMe High Availability Cluster (production server) via a third node as a backup machine, using ATTO ExpressSAS® GT HBAs. The production server uses ATTO FastFrame™3 100GbE network cards to connect to the client. The VMware virtualization platform was used for testing purposes. It can also be used with other hypervisors, as well as various business applications such as real-time data analysis, cloud computing, OLTP/OLAP databases, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and pattern recognition.
