Nvidia

NVIDIA, in operation since 1999, pioneered the development of the gaming market. Since then, it has redefined modern computer graphics and revolutionized data processing in the Data Center. More recently, based on GPU systems, the company has ushered in modern artificial intelligence - a new era of computing - with GPUs acting as intelligence for multiple devices.

Nvidia computing technologies

Nvidia has introduced the CUDA computing platform, which enables developers to harness the power of GPU cards for so-called general-purpose computing and it is widely used in machine learning and artificial intelligence applications, enabling faster inference times and algorithm training. The most advanced GPU cards with Omniverse Enterprise, AI Enterprise and Virtual GPU applications, are offered in Europe through the company's PNY NVidia's technology partner.

With the support of third-party manufacturers such as Supermicro and AIC, the most robust high-performance servers based on A100 or Ampere series GPUs are built. Nvidia solutions power the world's fastest supercomputers. The American-built Summit computer is the world's smartest and most powerful supercomputer, with computing power of more than two hundred petaFLOPS in HPC computing and three exaOPS in artificial intelligence tasks. Summit combines HPC and AI-related computing using more than twenty-seven thousand NVIDIA Volta Tensor GPU cores to harness this power for scientific discovery.

NVIDIA Networking Strategy

The NVIDIA Networking division was established in 2020, following the merger of acquired companies: Mellanox Technologies and Cumulus Networks. The combination of the three entities' expertise, experience and technology gives users a choice of data center components that are increasingly faster and software-defined. It also gives a larger offering for increasingly popular AI and Cloud systems. The acquired company, Mellanox Technologies, is a leading provider of end-to-end Ethernet and InfiniBand IT networking solutions for storage environments, server platforms and hyperconverged infrastructures. The company offers a wide range of networking products of the highest performance and quality, including network cards, switches or dedicated software.

Cumulus Networks, on the other hand, has more than 2,000 customers using 130 different hardware platforms running Cumulus Linux, the operating system for network switches. Together with Mellanox Technologies, they developed the Open Ethernet strategy in 2013, in which they are still technology leaders today.

The company's strategy leverages its extensive knowledge and experience in building scalable data center solutions. Open Ethernet-based devices are designed to be:

  • Open - enabling the combination of third-party software with the raw device through open interfaces. Such a solution translates into freedom of choice and a high level of innovation. Mellanox Open Ethernet products allow Software Defined Networking(SDN) deployment, management, intelligent monitoring and coordination through standard APIs and plug-ins. Thus, the user has the ability to create efficient and unified solutions.
  • Standard - based on the well-known and widely used Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocol, while maintaining full compatibility.
  • Linearly scalable - maintaining high performance, low cost and ease of management in even very large-scale networks consisting of thousands of nodes.
  • Efficient - design optimized for highest speed and port density, low latency and energy efficiency.
  • Service-oriented and virtualization - providing infrastructure monitoring and enforcing SLAs (service level agreements).
